The Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce will host its second Fish Fry and Boat show Saturday at the boat ramp in downtown Murphy.
Murphy – Fish will be frying and boats will be floating in the Hiwassee River as the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce hosts its second annual Fish Fry and Boat Show from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. Saturday at the Tennessee Valley Authority boat ramp downtown.

“With gasoline at $4 or more, this event can show residents there’s fun right here in Cherokee County,” chamber Executive Director Sande Kimball said.

This family event, co-sponsored by the Chamber Ambassador Roundtable, will include a bounce house, cotton candy, popcorn, snow cones and more.
Demonstrations by Appalachian Outfitters will teach visitors how to use paddle boats and allow them to practice in the river.

Canoes and kayaks will be demonstrated as well. Ridges Marina also will bring out at least eight boats.

Music will be provided by disc jockey Chad Johnson.

The fish fry will include trout plates featuring baked beans, cole slaw, a drink and a roll. Plates are $6 for adults and $3 for children 10 and under. Take-out plates also will be available. Lunch will be served from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Representatives from Allen Kay Designs, Carolina Buggies, Celebration Station and Reel Angling Adventures also will be on hand.

Sponsors include BB&T, Best Western, Carolina Trout, Ingles of Murphy, Royal Crown Bottling and the Cherokee Scout.

The purpose of this event is two-fold – bringing attention to local businesses and raising money for the chamber, Kimball said.

The money will go toward operating expenses, the building fund and to support the new electronic message board.

Kimball said the chamber expects the event to be more fun this year since the lakes and rivers are up.

“Enjoy a stay-cation on June 21 at the TVA ramp across from the Murphy Volunteer Fire Department,” Kimball said. “Everyone is invited to come out, enjoy a great trout plate and paddle in the river,” she said.
